Questions we actually get asked

Grouped by which of the three things you are buying, because the answer usually depends on that. If yours is not here, ask — most of these started as somebody's email.

Fabric by the yard

Will my yardage arrive as one continuous piece?

Fabric is sold by the yard, and each fabric lists its own width on its page. We cut your yardage from a single roll wherever we can. Roll lengths vary from fabric to fabric, so a large order may come in more than one piece — if you need one unbroken length, contact us before you order and we will check what is on the roll.

Is there a minimum?

One yard. After that, any whole number of yards — the price per yard is the same at 1 yard and at 40.

How wide is the fabric?

It varies by fabric, and each fabric page carries its own width. Where a width is not shown, it is because we have not measured and recorded that roll yet — ask and we will go and check rather than guess.

Can I have a sample first?

Yes, and please do. Any fabric, $1.00, added from that fabric page or from a family page. It is real cloth off the same roll, and it is yours to keep.

Custom tablecloths

Why are they final sale?

Because the cloth does not exist until you order it. We cut it from the roll and sew it to the size you picked, so there is nothing to resell if it comes back. That is also why we would rather send you a $1.00 sample than take a return.

What size do I need?

Table size plus twice the drop you want. The size guide walks through it with two worked examples, and if you are unsure, call before you order — it takes two minutes.

Can you make a size that is not listed?

Often, yes. Ask us. The listed sizes cover most tables, but we cut to order anyway, so an unusual table is a conversation rather than a problem.

Can I have a lace tablecloth?

Not off the shelf. Lace we sell by the yard only, because a lace cloth is slow work and we have never listed them as products — but we do make them one at a time on request. Tell us the table and we will quote it.

Orders and events

I need forty cloths for an event. Is there a trade process?

No, and you do not need one. Put the quantity in and check out — there is no minimum, no trade form and no quote to wait for. Put your date in the order note and we will confirm before we cut.

When will my order arrive?

It depends which of the three worlds it came from. Ready-to-ship goods leave quickest; made-to-order cloths take longer because they are being made. The shipping page has the detail.

Will everything arrive together?

Not usually, if you have mixed made-to-order with ready-to-ship. Say the word in the order note and we will hold the order and ship it as one.

Not answered here?

Ask us and we will answer, then usually add it to this page. Most of what is above started as somebody’s email. Write to info@clothandlinen.com.
